Content Creation

At a basic level, the content generation is easy: -

Simple rules: -

  • Present the subject of the content on a black background. Remember that black in a projected image is actually the absence of projected light. These areas will look transparent in these illusions.

  • Do not break frame as it becomes obvious that the content is displayed in some way on a rectilinear display.

  • Make with as little black in the object itself as possible unless you want to create a see-through area to the object. e.g., the finger/hand holes to a cup.

  • Introduce spin as it helps the illusion of 3D. Slower spin rates of say 5-10 seconds for a full rotation are most effective - half and quarter rotations at this speed also work. Bigger objects might be better taking longer to rotate.

  • Remember you can reverse the spin too and show a slightly different view to an observer. You can also choose a different axis to make a spin on.

  • Make objects smaller then big or the reverse to give the illusion of a z plane. This works particularly well in combination with a spinning effect.

  • If you want to run a video that does not have the subject isolated on black, then it is best to make the frame size of the video area smaller than the full available frame size e.g., less than 2/3 of the available x, y pixels. Outside this area should then be black. Avoid having this reduced video frame sit still within the main frame area. Try non-rectilinear shaped small video host frame. Ovaloid or curved video frames look best. Then slowly move the video section around the main available full frame area.

  • Make in minimum HD of 1920 x 1080 or higher as default.

  • Content can be CGI animation or video even 360 degree still photography works (e.g. animated loops from 36 views 10 degree separation).

  • The use of colour should be understood and well considered. Chose brighter shades for most impact paler grey versions can looked washed out.

  • Film on green screen or black background. When filming people as the subjects then make sure that the lighting instructions described in our filming instructions are followed. Separate sheet please ask for this if needed.

  • Digitally resurrecting dead people is the trickiest to do – ask for more detail.
