Peppers Ghost - Glasses Free Virtual Reality for Stage and Scenic installations

Sri Lankan Presidential Elections

When 80% of the population live out of the urban areas and they make up the majority of your loyal voters, it makes sense to use the very best method of communication to get your message to them. The Sri Lankan President saw the benefits, and employed IAV to equip four lorries with systems that could drive to all the different parts of the country, and give a presentation, as close as possible, to a real live hustings speech. The audience were amazed - many did not appreciate that the President was not actually there. They were captivated and applauded loudly even though they had previously practically ignored a similar speech on an LED screen!

These systems allowed the President to effectively communicate messages even when they were in people’s second and third languages, and made a great impact on the different demographics.

UK Government Export Support Department – UKTI - International City's Tour

Explaining why people should invest in UK businesses or think of using UK suppliers in their projects is the remit of the UK government department the UKTI. (UK Trade and Investment). One task of the UKTI is to attend trade shows like GITEX and push the case for collaboration with British companies. Hologram technology helped them deliver a massive increase in both the stand attendance and dwell time by the attendees. This was achieved by staging a series of mini-presentations by UK entrepreneurs, government ministers, scientists and educators.

Madame Tussauds Blackpool - Brian Cox Explains Our Solar System

We have heard it said that "if Madame Tussauds were alive today she would delighted to have Holographic representations of celebrities in her Museum" so we were very pleased to be asked to install one showing with the popular Astronomer Professor Brian Cox. How better to convey both his personality but also to deliver in the most compelling way the knowledge he has. in the Blackpool install you can witness an expert at the height of his capability delivering in such a succinct and compelling fashion details about a topic he thoroughly understands. To make the experience even more compelling his Holographic image is augmented by 3 dimensional CGI animation. This install is an inspiration for museums and classrooms alike.

Madame Tussauds - New York - Ghost Busters

How better to represent Slimer the Ghost Buster star ghost in a museum exhibit than to choose the Peppers Ghost technique to make a compelling virtual reality experience.

Just as in the film Slimer floats mysteriously around the Mercado lift lobby engaging mischievous antics...until that is an audience member presses a button on the ghost catching machine and suddenly he is sucked into a vortex leading inevitably to the ghost trap.

South Florida Science Museum and Aquarium

When planning began for the new wing of the museum the management team decided to use their contacts to elicit a plan for a world class museum wing that focused on explaining the human brain. What better way to complement the enthralling exhibits and cutting edge knowledge they were able to access than to use a virtual 3D theatre to present the an augmented reality educational experience for their audience.

BAE Systems

BAE -first 20seconds of sound only trimmed off this version.wmv

This system was built into a private viewing area of BAE Systems Farnborough Airshow stand. Two employees trained hard to enable a flawless presentation of graphics floating around them in a jaw dropping explanation of the companies capabilities. It is interesting to see strong military men who make up the bulk of the BAE systems client base look so awe inspired.

Insight Engineering Pty Ltd Bangalore

Insight Engineering of Bangalore India, attributes being taken seriously at their industry's annual show to the “high tech feel” of their stand which complimented their products very well and allowed their story to be explained in a memorable and effective manner.

They were at an automotive manufacturers supplier show in Germany; obviously, one of the world centres of excellence for automotive manufacture.

In previous years Insight Engineering’s potential customers had only considered them as a low cost value supplier. This year they paid attention to the stand and also to the fact that the products made in India were also of a very high quality and that they not only challenged on price but innovation and technical know-how too. All agreed this was a very effective stand which lifted their company’s perceived capabilities in the eyes of their client base and very importantly they did not have to ship large complex machinery to the show which was another bonus.

HoloNet Projections used to create highly realistic Holographic illusions

British Music Experience in Liverpool

Interesting AV Ltd are delighted to have been involved in the specification supply and installation of the "holographic"components for the amazingly realistic installation at the British Music Experience in Liverpool.

Operators Harcourt Developments from Northern Ireland asked Audio Visual installers DJW Ltd. to supply all the Audio-Visual equipment for the site. In turn Interesting AV Ltd were challenged to supply hardware for a highly realistic Holographic illusion of Boy George intended to entertain the visitors in the British Music Experience's new home.

After extensive testing DJ Willrich Ltd and Interesting AV Ltd developed a creative solution based on the patent pending HoloNet product that is proving so very popular. The hardware really allows Graham English and Co's beautifully crafted content to appear to be so realistic.

One major challenge was the fact that the Digital Projection 14K ansi-lumen laser projector being used for a drop-down screen needed to also illuminate the Holonet surface. Normally this would not prove difficult but the fact that this projector did not have an ultra-short throw lens option, meant that the secondary image was going to be highly visible on the rear wall of the stage. Want to know how we solved this problem so effectively? - then call us on 01234 241021 and ask for Paul. Alternatively, you can email paul.wood@interestingav.com.

The video here was filmed on a phone so apologies for the quality . ..but it does convey the realism and it is nice to hear one of the amazed audience members say "you won't think that was a hologram"

UK National Health Service (NHS) employ Holographic technology for their training centre.

We recently helped our good friends at Sim4Med - the innovative medical simulation chaps - to install a powerful and engaging holographic presentation system.

The NHS have a huge wealth of knowledge and talent in their workforce. This system can help busy specialists remotely present their knowledge to their colleagues wherever they maybe saving time and ensuring the highest quality training.

The projector was on the floor behind the first piece of stage between the two red chairs. The holographic illusion being created on the HoloNet silvered gauze material which is set back from the side curtains. There was eventually a proscenium curtain added too and this further helped the illusion.

The UK health care system is a national government-controlled department operating hundreds of hospitals and healthcare centres all over the country.

Within the organisation there is an incredible wealth of knowledge locked up in the heads of very busy staff. Many are so heavily scheduled that trying to organise for them to deliver lectures in the in-house training centres is very difficult and stressful. IAV were invited to help develop an innovative solution with a partner company. At the heart of the system there is a remote link from an NHS site in one location to the training room in a training college. This remote link puts doctors and clinicians who have just emerged from ground-breaking surgery straight in front of students in the college without them having to even change out of their scrubs. This means that the information the doctors convey to the audience is very fresh in their minds making it a very powerful communication tool.

The clinician’s image can even be complimented by the incorporation of pre-prepared holographic animations further engaging the audience. This system is loved by students, medical trainers and doctors alike. Even the accountants can see the benefits, with less lost doctors’ time and a reduced need for transportation around sites to deliver the content.

You can see some of our set up testing in this sneak preview. - As you might imagine, the real presentation to senior NHS staff the next day went very well and can be seen on Periscope.

You can see Stuart here on stage firstly as a projected holographic image then later filmed stood on the stage next to a skeleton. In both cases he has virtual medical images floating apparently in mid air next to him.

This install shows how it is possible to set a lecturer up in a remote location and allow them to interact with an audience in another room; and very importantly; still feel connected to the audience.

Microphones on the stage pick up audio in the presentation room and a camera on the audience allows the talent appearing virtually on the stage to see them even when located elsewhere.

The talent was filmed on a special live chroma key system. The graphics which are part of the talents presentation are mixed in using the broadcast equipment and can be controlled by and interacted with the talent.

Qsar Al Hosn Fort - Council Chamber Restoration Abu Dhabi

We were asked by our friends at DJW to see if we could help them supply a solution to replace 3 transparent OLED's in a tender they had won in Abu Dhabi's prestigious Qsar Al Hosn Fort - Council Chamber restoration project. These OLEDs are fantastic displays and in many ways seemed to be the perfect solution for the task of allowing the audience in the viewing gallery to see augmented content displayed over the viewing window without the need for 3D glasses. However in moving from the concept through testing to implementation it became obvious that here were a couple of limitations that made the practice differ from the conception. The first was the fact that these displays are only around 40% transparent which means that even without content being displayed views around them are different to viewing through; them not a complete disaster but not as clean as envisioned. Also importantly the 40% transparency meant that the lighting would ideally need to be brighter in the chamber to compensate for the reduced brightness of the scene behind. This was slightly concerning as people also walked in the lower floor and the light levels needed would not really reflect the original ambiance. However most troubling was the fact that at the time of the project the warranty on the transparent OLED panel would only cover 7 hours of operation per day. Obviously in the long run the OLED will be warrantied for longer but this project shows a cost effective way to use the highly transparent HoloNet surface with an ultra short throw projector to achieve a fabulous very low profile solution that can augment any viewing window in a clean clutter free manner.

ToughBook

We were delighted when asked to help inventor of the ToughBook - that ultra tough laptop which launched a complete sector in its own right. The task was to allow the product to be explained and Full human sized image of people presented as a Holographic illusion in 2.2m of depth with the image set in the centre of the unit and not at the rear as is normal. This is a first and its design and method of production represent our latest product HoloSpace backed by patent application and development commitment of our company.
